War’s flames blaze across Scotland and England.

Scotland, 1303.

Marsaili Naper hardly remembers life before war. When her clan’s territory is invaded, she makes a dangerous sacrifice to save her younger sister. Now, she’s captured by her country’s enemy.

It’s only a matter of time before her execution. As the daughter of a lowland chief, Marsaili’s death will make a powerful statement in the war. Yet, a voice beyond her prison walls shares a plan for freedom. Risking escape with a soldier and farm lad, Marsaili finds unexpected friendship. But beyond captivity, danger still grips her home, her family, and her identity.

Freedom is covered in thorns. How will Marsaili survive war’s sting when her world has already been torn apart?
